Birch Telecom Chooses DSET
Business-To-Business E-Commerce Solutions
DSET Ordering Gateway to Support
UNE-P Operation
Bridgewater, NJ - April 19, 2000 - (NASDAQ: DSET) - DSET
Corporation, a leading supplier of business-to-business e-commerce
connectivity solutions for the telecom industry, announced
today that Birch Telecom has purchased a suite of DSET products
that includes the DSET ezLocal ordering gateway which supports
UNE-P operation and ezSubscribe solutions for increasing sales-force
productivity. One of the largest competitive local exchange
carriers (CLECs) in the Midwest, Birch Telecom currently interconnects
with Southwestern Bell in Kansas, Missouri, and Texas.
Short for "Unbundled Network Element-Platform,"
UNE-P is an operating mode that enables a CLEC to place orders
with an incumbent carrier for all of the network elements
(loop, switch port, transport, and more) needed to provide
phone service for new customers without deploying their own
switches. Carriers operating in this mode could achieve substantially
higher margins and have lower capital expenses for switches
and related equipment.
David Vranicar, Birch senior vice president and chief information
officer, praised DSET's wide range of functionality supporting
multiple product gateways with numerous trading partners.
"In addition to their depth and breadth of products,
DSET stays abreast of industry changes and new standards,
ensuring the continuity of our quality customer service,"
Vranicar said.
"We are extremely pleased to have Birch Telecom as a
customer," said Phil Cavallo, DSET's senior vice president
of worldwide sales and marketing. "Like many of our customers,
Birch will integrate their ordering gateway with MetaSolv's
Telecom Business SolutionTM
(TBSTM) order management
and service fulfillment solution. Also, with the recent release
of our ezLocal 2.6 ordering gateway, we were able to satisfy
Birch's requirements to migrate customers from incumbent providers
to Birch's UNE-P base."
Birch also purchased the DSET ezSubscribe solutions to automate
customer service record (CSR) retrieval from the incumbent
carrier. Translated into easy-to-understand language, the
retrieved information is used to compare Birch's offerings
with those of the incumbent. In addition, Birch will deploy
DSET's ez911 gateway to automate the transfer of relevant
customer information to support 911 service.
