ConnectSouth Communications
Selects DSET Solution for DSL Service
DSET Gateway Will Support Ordering and DSL
Line Sharing for Texas-based DLEC
Bridgewater, NJ - June 21, 2000 - (NASDAQ: DSET) - DSET Corporation,
a leading supplier of business-to-business e-commerce connectivity
solutions for the telecom industry, announced today that ConnectSouth
Communications is deploying DSET's ezLocal ordering gateway
in a comprehensive operations support system (OSS) architecture
designed to automate the process of providing digital subscriber
line (DSL) service. ConnectSouth provides high-speed Internet
access and Internet business tools to small- to medium-sized
businesses in under-served communities across the Southern
U.S.
The DSET ezLocal gateway is a key OSS interconnection solution
that can automate the exchange of ordering data between a
DLEC (data local exchange carrier) such as ConnectSouth and
its trading partners, greatly reducing the time required to
turn on service for new customers. The ezLocal gateway will
help ConnectSouth bond electronically with SBC Communications
and BellSouth Telecommunications to order network facilities
for customers and to support line sharing.
The line-sharing capability that DSET's ezLocal gateway enables
for ConnectSouth's customers is mandated by a 1999 FCC ruling.
Before line sharing was mandated, customers who obtained high-speed
Internet access from a competitive DLEC typically needed a
new phone line and number for DSL service in addition to the
lines and numbers for their existing local exchange voice
service. Now, with the help of the ezLocal gateway's unique
DSL-support capabilities, customers served by ConnectSouth
will be able to receive DSL service at their existing local
exchange numbers.
The DSET gateway will be integrated with software from various
suppliers to facilitate flow-through ordering and order management,
including DSET alliance partners CommTech Corporation and
Vitria Technology.
"Though the benefits of the DSET ezLocal Gateway will
be invisible to the ConnectSouth customer, they will benefit
immensely from the speed and efficiency that this program
brings to our provisioning system," said Dr. Ralph Freeman,
chief information officer for ConnectSouth. "Building
a high-quality, reliable network, and providing that service
to customers as efficiently and positively as possible is
the first step in making customers more productive, efficient,
and competitive."
Phil Cavallo, DSET's senior vice president of worldwide sales
and marketing added, "As a DLEC focused on offering data
services over DSL, ConnectSouth has a unique view of the OSS
environment. We at DSET are excited about their approach and
the mix of software partners and integration efforts. Starting
with the ordering of dry copper pairs through our ezLocal
gateway, ConnectSouth is building a production environment
that will make turning on high-speed data services for their
customers fast, efficient, and cost-effective."
In addition to the DSL provisioning capabilities provided
by the ezLocal gateway, DSET solutions automate a wide range
of other operations for competitive carriers across the United
States. DSET products automate generating comparative sales
quotes and the ordering of local loops and high-capacity circuits,
as well as providing support for number portability, 911 emergency
service, and calling card and caller ID services. DSET products
also ensure that CLEC customers are served by their preferred
long-distance carriers and that service problems are resolved
quickly and efficiently.
