DSET Announces DSL Solution for DLECs

Bridgewater, NJ - March 6, 2000 - (NASDAQ: DSET) - DSET Corporation, a leading supplier of business-to-business e-commerce connectivity solutions for the telecom industry, today announced the introduction of the ezDSL Leads Qualification System. This is one of three DSET products for an emerging market that includes data local exchange carriers (DLECs) offering digital subscriber line (DSL) service. This market also encompasses Internet service providers (ISPs) focused on leasing high-speed access lines to their customers and competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) planning to offer voice over DSL service.

In addition to the ezDSL Leads Qualification System, DSET's DSL package includes the ezLocal ordering gateway and ezTroubleAdmin customer-care gateway. The ezLocal gateway has interfaces for interconnecting DLECs with incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs) across the country. ezTroubleAdmin can be integrated with customer-care systems from Clarify, Remedy, Siebel, and other suppliers on the front end as well as with ILEC trading partners nationwide.

"With the introduction of the ezDSL Leads Qualification System, our DSL product suite supports the pre-sales phase of the ordering process," said Paul Smith, DSET's senior vice president of strategic planning and product management. "Designed to improve targeted marketing efforts aimed at customer acquisition, ezDSL Leads can automatically help a DLEC determine whether or not a customer at a particular address might be capable of receiving DSL service and the DSL speed, or bandwidth, that could be supported by the service provider."

Using existing copper phone lines and special modems, DSL technology provides the bandwidth for applications that include high-speed Internet access, remote access to local area networks, videoconferencing, virtual private networks, and voice services. However, determining which homes and businesses in a particular area are capable of receiving DSL service can be complex, involving a variety of factors. These factors include the availability of the necessary equipment at a central office, the electrical characteristics of the local loop, and the distance between an address and the central office.

The ezDSL Leads Qualification System combines technical and marketing information from several databases to enhance the productivity of a carrier's marketing and sales force by enabling them to focus on qualified prospective customers rather than expending time and money on leads ineligible for DSL service. As demonstrated by initial installations, ezDSL Leads can eliminate a substantial percentage of direct-marketing costs and futile follow-up sales calls.

By automatically specifying whether digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) equipment is available for a particular local loop, ezDSL Leads can also generate savings by reducing the number of loop tests that a DLEC has to order from the incumbent carrier that owns the loops. Additionally, this information can help a DLEC plan more efficiently for the deployment of its own equipment and the introduction of new services.

"DSET's package of DSL solutions clearly offers DLECs more than any other gateway supplier," Smith said. "Furthermore, because DSET has the most comprehensive suite of interconnection gateway solutions for the voice market, we can provide an efficient, cost-effective migration path for those DLECs moving to offer voice services as well."

Smith concluded, "The ezDSL Leads Qualification System can give service providers a very sharp competitive edge in a complex sales environment. For companies targeting the high-speed data market, ezDSL Leads in combination with DSET's other DSL solutions will be the benchmark when it comes to winning customers, turning on the services they've ordered, and maintaining the quality of those services."
