DSET Utilizes Java for Gateways
Expands Use of BEA's WebLogic
J2EE Development Platform
Bridgewater, NJ - February 8, 2001 - (Nasdaq: DSET) - DSET
Corporation announced today that it is expanding the use of
BEA Systems Inc.'s WebLogic Server to support the implementation
of Java 2 Enterprise Edition technology (J2EE) from Sun Microsystems,
Inc. as the development platform for its gateway products.
DSET has been using this development platform since early
in 2000 and has already shipped its first J2EE-based gateway,
ezPreOrder (Basic edition). This DSET product has now been
deployed at multiple customer sites.
DSET selected the BEA solution because it is the leading J2EE
software development environment optimized for Web-based application
development. The benefits of BEA's WebLogic Server and J2EE
to DSET, its customers, and investors include:
- Faster development of new functionality
and new products because of the rich suite of pre-built
capabilities in the J2EE platform.
- Easy integration with a wide range of other
J2EE-based software solutions.
- Products that are easily scalable.
- Extensive development community support.
Together, these benefits result in lower product development
costs that can contribute to increased profitability.
In addition to building gateways on the J2EE platform, DSET
is incorporating XML technology in its software solutions.
XML is emerging as a widely used communications interface
in many industries. DSET is also tracking efforts such as
the work on tML, a potential variation of XML that may prove
to be the optimal interface standard for the telecommunications
industry.
"Our engineering community is very excited about the move
to J2EE," said Jimmy Jobe, DSET's senior vice president of
product development and product management. "This migration
is part of a multi-faceted effort that will enable us to dramatically
accelerate the pace of gateway development and the introduction
of new products offering increased functionality and business
benefits. We are confident that as we continue to roll out
gateways on this platform our customers will be extremely
pleased with the added value that DSET products will deliver."
